Western Regional Minister pledges to reinstate TUC on REGSEC

The Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, has called on labour unions to work closely with the government and other stakeholders to improve Ghana’s working environment and promote industrial harmony.
According to him, a strong partnership between labour unions and the government is essential for economic growth, industrial peace, and sustainable development.
He made these remarks during a meeting with Richard Hanson, the Acting General Secretary of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in the Western Region, who paid him a courtesy call to discuss the union’s activities.
Minister Nelson commended the TUC for its crucial role in safeguarding workers’ rights and ensuring a stable labour environment in Ghana.
He acknowledged the union’s contributions to national development and stressed the need for employers, both in the public and private sectors, to uphold workers' rights.
He emphasized that a fair and respectful working environment is key to enhancing productivity and economic stability.
During the discussions, Richard Hanson raised concerns about ongoing industrial disputes in the region, particularly an incident involving Twyford Ghana, where an employee was allegedly abused.
He appealed to the Minister to intervene and ensure justice for all parties involved.
In response, Minister Nelson assured the TUC boss of his commitment to working collaboratively to address labour-related concerns and strengthen labour-government relations in the region.
As part of the discussions, Richard Hanson also appealed for the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to be reinstated as a member of the Western Regional Security Council (REGSEC).
He noted that the TUC used to be part of the council but was removed along the way.
He argued that reinstating the TUC on REGSEC would enhance collaboration between labour unions and the government on security and industrial matters, ultimately benefiting workers and businesses in the region.
Minister Nelson assured the TUC leadership that their concerns would be taken into consideration as part of efforts to promote industrial peace and strengthen labour relations in Ghana.
