The arrested suspects paraded

The Western Regional Police Command has intensified its efforts against illegal mining, conducting a significant operation in the Avelebo and Akango areas of the Evalue Ajomoro-Gwira District.

This initiative led to the arrest of 15 individuals, comprising seven foreign nationals and eight Ghanaians, all suspected of engaging in unauthorized mining activities.

Additionally, authorities seized 10 excavators and other mining equipment during the raid.

The confiscated machinery is expected to serve as evidence in forthcoming legal proceedings against the suspects.

This crackdown is part of a broader strategy to combat illegal mining, which has been linked to severe environmental degradation, including the pollution of the Ankobra River.

The police have reiterated their commitment to enforcing mining regulations and have cautioned individuals involved in such illicit activities to cease immediately or face legal consequences.
