The Krontihene of Akyem Asoum, Nana Boadi Amponim Abodade III, has revealed that Samira Bawumia, wife of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, was deeply disappointed following her husband’s defeat to John Mahama in the 2024 presidential election.

Nana Abodade III noted that Mrs Bawumia had been heavily invested in her husband’s presidential bid, envisioning herself as Ghana’s next First Lady, with a strong public presence.

“Dr Bawumia is not happy; he did his best and was desperate for the position,” Nana Boadi stated.

According to Nana Abodade III, “Somebody else was even more unhappy, Samira. She was so desperate for the position.”

The chief highlighted Mrs. Bawumia’s prominent role in the NPP campaign, where her charisma and stylish appearances frequently took centre stage.

“You know, our good old Auntie Rebecca [Akufo-Addo], she was not that outgoing, and so Samira was mostly at the forefront. She longed to be the First Lady,” he observed.

Nana Abodade III further suggested that Mrs Bawumia’s efforts were driven by her desire to redefine the role of First Lady, particularly with her distinctive sense of fashion and public appeal.

“If the NPP had won, she would have slayed a lot. “She will slay aaah Ghanaian ladies all go bore die,”” Nana Boadi quipped, implying that her style would have set trends and possibly stirred envy among Ghanaian women.

He also indicated that Samira’s visible disappointment mirrored the broader mood within the Bawumia household after the election loss. “She is very unhappy,” he added.

Nana Abodade III was speaking in a recent interview with GHOne TV.
