The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has described the party’s victory in the 2024 general elections as a “second revolution” for Ghana.

Speaking at the commemoration of the 31st December Revolution at the Nungua Town Park on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, Mr. Asiedu Nketia attributed the defeat of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration to the nation’s economic struggles and widespread public dissatisfaction.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia highlighted the NPP government’s alleged mismanagement of the economy and accused them of promoting corruption and the looting of state resources.

“There is no doubt about the broken economy, which we now have to fix. Democracy is not about strong men but about strong institutions,” he said.

He emphasized the need for a values-based governance system to rebuild Ghana’s institutions and restore public trust.

“What we need to reset is the values that define us as a people,” he added.

The NDC Chairman assured Ghanaians of the party’s commitment to the “Better Ghana We All Want” agenda under the incoming John Mahama administration. He urged citizens to remain steadfast and support efforts to rebuild the economy and improve governance.

Addressing the National Awards ceremony held by outgoing President Akufo-Addo on December 30, Mr. Asiedu Nketia dismissed it as a “charade,” questioning the credibility of some award recipients.

“How would anybody with their head properly screwed on award Hawa Koomson, who shoots at people? How can you honour Bryan Acheampong?” he questioned, accusing the NPP of normalizing violence and impunity.

The event also featured remarks from NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, who reiterated the party’s readiness to address the challenges facing Ghanaians and rebuild the nation.

The commemoration of the 31st December Revolution served as a platform for the NDC to reflect on its historical roots while reaffirming its commitment to governance that prioritizes the welfare of the people.

With the John Mahama-led administration set to assume office on January 7, 2025, the NDC leadership has pledged to usher in an era of reform and inclusivity.
