Police assault: Owusu Bempah granted GHS200k bail
The founder and general overseer of Glorious Word Ministry International Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah has been granted bail in the sum of GHS200,000 with two sureties.
His lawyer, Garry Nimako secured the bail for him at the High Court in Accra today, Wednesday, 15 September 2021 presided over by Justice Comfort Tasiame.
Owusu Bempah was remanded in Police custody on Monday.
Three others who were arrested together with the pastor were also remanded by the court.
The three are Michael Boateng, Frederick Ohene and Nathaniel Agyekum. Two other suspects are on the run and the Police are pursuing them.
Rev Owusu Bempah, and his accomplices were together charged with six counts.
They all pleaded not guilty to the charges including threatening to kill Patricia Oduro Koranteng, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.
Rev Owusu Bempah and one other were charged with two counts of Offensive Conduct Conducive to the breach of peace and threat of death, while the remaining were also charged with assault on a public officer.
Background
The suspects were arrested and detained over the creation and circulation of multiple videos containing threats, the brandishing of a weapon and the assault of some police personnel.
The Police said after critically analyzing the said videos based on intelligence gathered, they embarked on an operation on Sunday, 12 September 2021 at the premises of the church to arrest the suspects but some members of the church believed to have been under the direction of Rev Bempah assaulted some Police officers.
The injured Police personnel have received treatment.
The Police have assured that impartial investigations will continue.
