Adaklu district in the Volta region is set to undergo a massive transformation and economic growth under the leadership of the newly confirmed District Chief Executive Jerry Yao Ameko.

Following his nomination, 19 assembly members including government appointees endorsed Mr Ameko with a 100 per cent vote on Wednesday April 2, 2025.

In an acceptance speech, the newly confirmed DCE expressed his heartfelt gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for nominating him to lead the district and the assembly members, including the entire Adaklu and NDC family, for having confidence in him.

Touching on his visions for the district, Mr Ameko affirmed his commitment to ensuring year-round farming to boost the agriculture sector in the district.

“We will establish agro-processing industries to add value to our farm produce and create jobs for our youth through public leaders and development partners," he emphasised, noting his administration will work diligently to attract investment in private partnerships, while providing financial and technical support to large-scale farmers, promoting mechanisation, and providing irrigation systems.

“My administration will ensure to tackle conflicts between crop farmers and cattle rearers,” he assured, stating, also, he would address the issue of inadequate infrastructure, and make sure hardworking men and women who had the potential to transform Adaklu into “a beacon of development” received necessary support.

He acknowledged Adaklu was blessed with vast arable land, a vibrant river suitable for irrigation, and said he would partner with traditional leaders to develop these. He optimistically noted Adaklu would become a leader in agribusiness.

“My administration is determined to [lead] economic transformation, in line with the policies of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, particularly the 24-hour economy policy,” he said.

“The 24-hour economy policy of the NDC presents a unique opportunity to support small and medium enterprises by creating an enabling business environment for all.

“My administration will prioritise healthcare to enhance sanitation across the district. We shall also support youth with vocational and entrepreneurial skills, ensuring they actively revolutionise the economic landscape of Adaklu.”

The Adaklu DCE said he would focus on improving road networks, ensuring access to potable water, expanding education and skills development, teacher motivation, and the implementation of scholarship schemes to support brilliant but needy children, ensuring “prosperity for all”

Mr Jerry Yao Ameko urged all residents and traditional leaders within the Adaklu district to embrace peaceful coexistence and conflict resolution.

“I pledge to lead with integrity, diligence, and a deep commitment to the well-being of Adaklu district,” he stressed.

“I pledge to work with all stakeholders to promote peaceful environment to attract investors and external partners.”

Meanwhile, the Volta Regional Minister James Gunu urged all residents and stakeholders to work together with the new DCE and the Mahama-led government to transform Ghana and Adaklu district.
