2025 AFCON qualifiers: Black Stars fumble a lead against Angola, crash out
The Black Stars are not going to Morocco for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The four-time champion, is missing out on the tournament for the first time in 20 years.
Today, Friday, November 15, 2024, the Jordan Ayew-captained Black Stars failed to win their last but one Group F game against Angola in Luanda.
Raising hopes, Ayew scored a 19th minute goal. Later, goalie Abdul Manaf Nurudeen managed to save a tricky penalty by what looked like happenstance.
The Black Stars pretty much controlled the first half and beginning of the second half but in the 64th minute, Angola responded with a goal, maintaining their unbeaten home record.
In all, the Black Stars played five games, drew three and lost two. They scored only two goals and conceded five in their campaign.
On Monday, November 18, the team hosts Niger in Accra for a nonconsequential match that might only help salvage what is left of their pride.
