Ministry of Works and Housing calls for collaboration to combat water pollution

The Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources has called for enhanced stakeholder collaboration to address the growing issue of water pollution.
This call was made during a dialogue on the theme, "Sustainable Water Management in Ghana," held as part of activities marking the 2025 World Water Day, observed on March 22.
The dialogue, organized by the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and the Centre of Excellence in Public Utility Regulations, brought together experts and policymakers to discuss strategies for preserving Ghana’s water resources.
In a speech delivered on behalf of the Minister by the Deputy Minister Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, the Ministry stressed the need for stricter regulations to protect rivers from pollution, illegal mining, and waste disposal.
The Minister emphasized that industries, businesses, and local communities must be held accountable for their environmental impact to prevent a potential water crisis.
Prof Samuel K. Bonsu, Rector of GIMPA, also addressed the gathering, urging authorities to be proactive and enforce existing laws to safeguard the country’s natural resources, particularly water bodies.
He noted that sustainable water management is critical to ensuring long-term environmental health and public safety.
The event underscored the urgent need for collaborative efforts from government agencies, private sector stakeholders, and communities to address water pollution and promote responsible practices that protect Ghana’s rivers and water sources.
