The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has retained the Suhum Parliamentary seat in the Eastern Region following a recount by the Electoral Commission (EC).

The recount, conducted at the Ghana Police Training School in Tesano, Accra, confirmed NPP candidate Frank Asiedu Bekoe as the elected Member of Parliament for Suhum.

He secured 16,855 votes, defeating his closest rival, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Prince Kwadwo Addo Tabiri, who polled 15,259 votes.

Independent candidate Kwadjo Asante came third with 14,860 votes, while another independent, Emmanuel Dede Wiafe, received just 159 votes.

Despite the declaration, the NDC has rejected the recounted results, describing the process as "unlawful." The party’s Deputy Director of Elections and IT, Rashid Tanko Computer, expressed the NDC’s dissatisfaction in an interview.

“It’s illegal, we reject it, and we’re not going to accept what has happened here.

An NDC government won’t respect these recollated results,” Rashid stated.

The recount was conducted using pink sheets from six polling stations within the Suhum Constituency. However, representatives of independent candidate Kwadjo Asante also raised objections, alleging that over 2,000 voters were disenfranchised due to missing pink sheets.

The NPP, however, has stood by the process and called for a similar recount in the Nsawam-Adoagyiri constituency to be conducted on Thursday.

The NDC, on the other hand, is pushing for a postponement of that recount to December 13.
