Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Mr John Mahama’s Special Aide, has asserted the Electoral Commission (EC) has to be purged.

She said the EC Chairperson Jean Mensa must show a sense of honour and resign, also.

Explaining her reasons, she cited there were one too many partisan workers at the commission.

She said the chairperson Mrs Mensa had abundantly been unfair to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by Mr Mahama.

The lawyer argued the EC and its leader had tested the limits of the patience of citizens, prompting post-election violence.

"I was thinking the EC Chairperson would resign yesterday," Madam Mogtari said.

"They've been incompetent, to say the least.

"They are too many partisans there, all the arm-twisting."

"When the will of the people is up against you, there's nothing you can do," she added, indicating citizens desired Madam Mensa out of office, also.

Joyce Mogtari said: "One of the reasons for the pockets of violence, even, is the EC took too long to declare the results.

According to her, the EC's delay was not well-received by "a lot of impatient people out there".

"And what is it that displays your level of engagement or efficiency? I give you 72 hours, you deliver in maybe 48 hours. It means you're up to task," she emphasised.

"You've heard today many civil society organisations condemning the EC."

She lamented "the cost of ballot sheets destroyed, burnt - because of elementary mistakes" by the EC.

She commended the NDC's technical team for their intervention to keep the 2024 elections fair by "keeping the EC in check – in fact, they did half of the work".

Madam Mogtari said, were she Mrs Jean Mensa, she would have resigned right after the declaration of results Monday evening.

"Like she [Jean Mensa] said [after the results declaration], 'It is finished'. It should be finished for her as well," she mocked.

The entire EC "needs a complete reform," she posited, hoping it would be part of the NDC's proposed constitutional amendment agenda for 2025.

"And delete all the partisans who are there. And she [Jean Mensa] herself has displayed enormous prejudice and bias towards the NDC. She should go and I think she ought to respect herself and leave."

Joyce Bawah Mogtari sat down with Channel One TV's Umaru Sanda for this conversation.
