GA/R: MP denies any involvement in GBC bungalow demolition controversy
Mr Sylvester Tetteh, Member of Parliament for Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfro Constituency in the Greater Accra Region and Deputy Minister for Information has announced an investigation into the allocation of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) lands to private individuals in the Akwasa area, following recent controversy over a demolition.
Mr Tetteh dismissed allegations that he orchestrated the demolition of a GBC structure, attributing the incident to administrative missteps within GBC.
He clarified that an agreement between the GA South Municipal Assembly and GBC designated the disputed land for a public school, explaining that the Assembly was responsible for clearing the site as part of the development plan.
Addressing claims from GBC’s Director of Legal Affairs that the land was wrongly demolished, Tetteh challenged him to provide proof.
"As Deputy Minister, I will launch an investigation into how GBC lands have been allocated for private developments in this area,” he said.
“If the Director of Legal Affairs has chosen to report me to the police and circulate my image on social media, he should be ready to substantiate his allegations.”
Tetteh also clarified that the structure in question was an old, unused bungalow, rented out by GBC to a private individual rather than occupied by GBC staff.
He explained that such structures are typically removed to make way for new developments.
Presenting documents, including a site plan and a letter reportedly from GBC’s Director-General, Tetteh defended the actions of both himself and the municipal Assembly as lawful.
“In defending the interests of my community, if that makes me lawless, then so be it,” he concluded.
“I will continue to stand up for what is right for my people.”
