Dec. 7 polls: IGP to share 'consumable' bits of 5k-page security deployment plan with CSOs, media, public soon
The security taskforce put in place for the safeguarding of Ghana’s peace and stability during the election period, according to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) George Akuffo Dampare will “engage when we need to, deescalate when that’s the best option, and enforce the law ruthlessly to the letter when we have to”.
He said this at a press briefing, Tuesday, November 19, 2024, assuring the public anyone who planned to take the peace of the country for granted would be confronted without fear nor favour.
“Hoping and being convinced the campaigning period would [soon] end peacefully, we’re now focusing on the D-Day and post-D-Day activities,” he added.
On election day, Saturday, December 7, 2024, the IGP revealed, “the work we’ve done so far has led to the production of a 5,400-page security deployment plan covering every aspect of security for the elections – inside out.”
He was excited to note this was a first of its kind in Ghana’s democratic dispensation.
He gave an assurance that his team would share an excerpt of the document with leaders of civil society and media when the time was appropriate so the public could have “what is consumable” relayed to them.
Dr Dampare reiterated his team was ready to collaborate with all stakeholders of the upcoming elections to make is both successful and peaceful.
