Dec. 7 Polls: Ballot paper printing yet to begin, notices of polls printing starts today – EC
The Electoral Commission (EC) has debunked claims that the printing of ballot papers for the 2024 general elections has started, clarifying that the process is yet to begin.
Instead, the printing of Notices of Polls for both the Presidential and Parliamentary elections commenced on Friday, 11 October 2024.
In a statement issued on Friday, the EC responded to concerns raised by the public about the absence of ballot statistics before the alleged start of the printing process.
The Commission assured the public that ballot paper printing will only begin once candidates, political parties, and all relevant stakeholders receive the necessary ballot statistics.
“We would like to assure the General Public that the printing of ballot papers has not commenced. Printing of Notices of Polls for the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections, however, begins on Friday, 11th October, 2024,” the EC clarified in its statement.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to transparency, promising that no ballot papers will be printed until all stakeholders are informed.
“Printing of ballot papers will only commence after ballot statistics have been provided to all Stakeholders. The Commission will not depart from this practice,” the statement indicated.
The EC also appealed to the public and political entities to trust the process, assuring that the December 2024 elections will be conducted in a transparent, credible, and fair manner.
