I arrest drugs, I don’t push drugs –Chairman Dollar clarifies
One of the individuals allegedly implicated in the Kotoka International Airport cocaine smuggling case, Eric Nartey Yeboah also known as Chairman Dollar, has broken his silence following the Ministry of Transport's announcement that all security officers involved in the case have been cleared of wrongdoing.
The incident, which occurred on March 23, 2024, involved the attempted smuggling of 8.5 kilograms of cocaine on a Royal Air Maroc flight.
The drugs were intercepted at Brussels Airport in Belgium, leading to accusations that a staff member of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) had facilitated the smuggling operation.
In response, GACL suspended several employees while an investigation was carried out.
Speaking before the Government Assurances Committee in Parliament, Transport Minister Kwaku Ofori Asiamah confirmed that, following a thorough investigation, the implicated employees had been exonerated and reinstated to their positions.
In an exclusive interview with Classfmonline.com, Eric Nartey Yeboah, one of the exonerated officers, expressed his relief and gratitude for being cleared of the allegations.
"As an officer at Kotoka International Airport (KIA), I don't deal in drugs; I arrest drugs," he emphasized.
He further noted, "I have waited all this while for this moment in my life.
People judged me without hearing my side of the story, but my Lord has spoken."
Mr Yeboah, who is also the Second Vice Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Greater Accra Region, urged journalists to verify stories before publishing them, especially in sensitive cases like his. "I hold no grudges against anyone," he said.
"I am just thankful that my name has been cleared.
This is a reputation I’ve built over years of service as a security officer, protecting my nation."
He also called on the management of the Ghana Airports Company to publicly issue a statement clarifying the exoneration of the officers involved, just as they had released statements when the allegations first emerged. "Why are they keeping the statement from the public when the officers have been cleared?" he questioned, urging the company to do the right thing and officially clear the air.
