EC releases ballot statistics for Dec 7 polls
The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has released ballot statistics to assist in the printing process for the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
This announcement was made on Monday, October 14, in a press release signed by Deputy EC Chairperson Samuel Tettey.
The EC's calculations were based on the total number of voters listed on the Provisional Voter’s Register (PVR), with an added two percent buffer.
This strategy aims to ensure an adequate supply of ballots for all eligible voters, considering potential increases in voter registration and turnout.
The Commission stressed that this proactive measure is designed to prevent any ballot shortages or discrepancies on election day.
While encouraging full voter participation, the EC also recognized that not all registered voters may choose to cast their votes.
“While the Commission welcomes and encourages maximum voter turnout on Election Day, we acknowledge that not every registered voter will participate in the 2024 General Election.
We are confident that our methodology—using the total number of voters on the PVR plus a two percent increase for ballot printing—is sufficient to avoid shortages and unnecessary waste.
This approach has been employed since 1992, and we ask the public to trust us to fulfil our mandate,” the statement concluded.
The full ballot statistics were also provided in the release.
