A/R: Chaos at Enough is Enough demo; 3 injured, 3 arrested
The Enough is Enough demonstration by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) turned violent in the Ashanti regional capital Kumasi.
The Tuesday, September 17, 2024, incident resulted in injuries, and arrests by police.
Police personnel were deployed to maintain order, but violence erupted when they prevented protesters from entering the Electoral Commission's (EC) Kumasi office premises.
Protesters resisted, citing a disagreement with the police's actions. The agreed-upon plan was to submit a petition demanding a forensic audit of the voter register at the EC's office. This was breached by demonstrators, according to a police report on Facebook.
The situation escalated when police fired tear gas, overpowering roudy demonstrators.
However, protesters entered the EC premises, and three people were injured in the ensuing chaos. Eventually, three were arrested by police.
Notably, Regional Chairman Augustus Nana Kwasi Andrews, reported he was slapped by a policeman.
Despite the chaos, the NDC successfully submitted the petition, demanding a positive response within seven days.
Regional Secretary Dr Frank Amoakohene outlined irregularities in the voter register requiring a forensic audit and blamed the police for the violence.
