FDA confirms safety of repackaged rice for SHS students
The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has confirmed the safety and wholesomeness of repackaged rice distributed to Senior High Schools (SHSs) across the country.
Speaking at a press conference, the Chief Executive Officer of the FDA, Dr. Delese Mimi Darko assured the public that rigorous tests, both nationally and internationally recognized, were conducted to verify the quality of the rice before approval for consumption.
“The FDA conducted extensive tests to ensure the rice met all safety and quality standards.
These tests are consistent with both national and international protocols,” she stated.
However, the CEO revealed that the distributor responsible for the rice was severely sanctioned for repackaging the product and falsely labelling its country of origin as Ghana.
“The repackaging and misrepresentation of the rice’s origin are violations of our regulations.
The distributor has faced significant penalties for these infractions,” she added.
The FDA’s reassurances come amid public concern over the quality and authenticity of food supplied to educational institutions.
The agency has pledged to strengthen oversight to prevent similar incidents in the future.
