President John Dramani Mahama has called on members and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to abstain from looting or damaging state properties, stressing the need for responsible behaviour to uphold public trust in the party.

Speaking at the National Muslim Prayer and Thanksgiving event held at the National Mosque in Kanda, Accra, on January 10, President Mahama expressed concern over reports of unlawful actions by individuals purportedly aligned with the NDC.

“I appeal to all our supporters and others engaged in illegal actions, such as looting goods and occupying government offices, to stop immediately.

We must act differently to sustain the trust and confidence Ghanaians have placed in us,” he stated.

The President urged party members to avoid emulating the errors attributed to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after their 2017 electoral victory, which he believes contributed to the erosion of public trust in the NPP.

“Many have observed that similar actions were undertaken by the NPP in 2017, which led to their loss of public confidence. We must learn from their mistakes.

Let us act in an orderly and responsible manner,” President Mahama said.

President Mahama assured party supporters that his administration is actively forming a government, with the full Cabinet to be announced within two weeks.

He encouraged party members to exercise patience and direct their concerns through appropriate channels once ministers are appointed.

“Government is being formed, ministers will be put in place, and other officials will be appointed.

Our full cabinet will be announced in 14 days.

If you have any grievances, please consult the relevant ministers once they are in office,” he advised.

The President’s remarks come in the wake of reports alleging the destruction and looting of state properties by individuals believed to be associated with the NDC.

He reiterated the importance of maintaining discipline and accountability within the party to avoid tarnishing its image.

“We must safeguard the public trust we have earned by demonstrating responsible and lawful conduct,” he concluded.
