General News
The replacement of the Voter ID cards will begin from today

The Electoral Commission (EC) has introduced an online payment portal to enable persons who wish to replace their lost or defaced Voter ID cards.

The replacement of the Voter ID cards will begin from today, Tuesday, 3 October 2023 and end on Monday, 9 October, 2023.

A statement issued by the Commission signed by its Head of Public Relations Affairs, Michael Boadu, on Monday, 2 October 2023, directed applicants who wish to have their cards replaced to follow the steps provided below:

“The applicant will receive an sms upon the successful completion of the transaction with the payment reference. The notification is to be presented at the point of payment,” the statement indicated.

According to the EC, “the online payment portal will facilitate a swift payment and replacement process.”

Meanwhile, the EC has said it will not extend the 21-day limited voter registration that ended on Monday, 2 October 2023.

The election management body said in a statement signed by the Acting Head of Public Affairs, Mr Michael Boadi, informed the general public that the exercise ended at 5:00 pm on Monday.

"The public is informed that the Commission will not extend' the exercise.

The Commission, however, "assured the general public that arrangements have been made to ensure that eligible citizens" who were "in the queue on or before 5:00 pm" on Monday, are registered the following day, Tuesday, the 3rd of October 2023.

"This arrangement will be extended only to eligible applicants in the queue at 5:00 pm", it added.

The EC expressed appreciation to the public for “the cooperation and support”.
