Dr Edward Omane Boamah with Otumfuo

Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Ghana’s Defence Minister, has assured Otumfuo Osei Tutu II of President John Dramani Mahama’s unwavering commitment to restoring lasting peace in Bawku.

His remarks followed a visit to the Asantehene on Friday, February 14, where discussions were held on the ongoing conflict in the region.

According to Dr Boamah, the government is pursuing a two-pronged approach—both security and traditional solutions—to address the crisis.

"President John Dramani Mahama is committed to bringing lasting peace to Bawku.

He is intensifying a two-track (security and traditional) solution," he stated.

The Defence Minister reaffirmed the government’s dedication to resolving the conflict, highlighting ongoing efforts to ensure stability.

"As promised earlier this week, we remain committed to restoring sustainable peace in Bawku," he assured.

To this end, he, along with the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, and the Chief of the Defence Staff, met with Otumfuo to deliberate on the dispute.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who had been leading traditional efforts to mediate the conflict, was acknowledged for his pivotal role.

Dr Boamah expressed confidence that the collaboration between security agencies and traditional leaders would yield a long-term resolution to the Bawku conflict.
