Buduburam explosion: Central Regional Minister visits families of victims, pledges gov’t support
On Wednesday, 16 October 2024, Central Regional Minister Justina Marigold Assan, along with former Gomoa East MP and NPP Parliamentary Candidate Kojo Asemanyi, District Chief Executive Solomon Darko Quarm, and other key stakeholders, visited the families and victims of the tragic Buduburam rock explosion.
The incident, which occurred on Monday, 14 October 2024, claimed the lives of three individuals two females and one male, while injuring 39 others. The explosion took place during rock blasting operations by a construction company working on the dualisation of the Kasoa-Winneba road in Gomoa Buduburam.
Describing the tragedy as heartbreaking, the Minister expressed her condolences to the bereaved families and the affected residents.
"This is a very sad situation for the families and the residents in the area,” she said.
She revealed that the contractors and stakeholders had been engaged to ensure that maximum precautions are taken and all safety protocols are followed
On behalf of the government, the Minister presented financial support to the families to help them through this difficult time. She also assured the victims that both the government and the construction company would cover all medical expenses and provide continued support.
The explosion, which occurred in the late afternoon, resulted from the blasting of underground rocks, sending debris flying into the homes of nearby residents.
