AngloGold Ashanti School shutdown over security concerns in Obuasi

The management of AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) School has announced a temporary closure due to growing security concerns affecting staff and students in the Obuasi Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
In a statement dated January 19, 2025, and signed by Simon Peter K. Attah-Cato, Executive Director of the school, management cited recent incidents of violence, including the burning of vehicles and destruction of property belonging to both private individuals and businesses as the reason for the shutdown.
To ensure the safety of students, teachers, and other stakeholders, the school has decided to close from Monday, January 20, 2025, to Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
“We are hopeful that calm will be restored during this period, allowing us to resume academic activities on Wednesday, January 23, 2025,” the statement added.
School authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will provide further updates as necessary.
