The Interim Executive of the BlueLight Traders Association (BTLA) has condemned “the unfortunate incident involving the disrespectful behavior by some young individuals during the visit of the Minister for Interior, Hon. Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, to our community”.

“The Minister had generously come to offer support and present food items to affected mothers and children who had tragically lost everything, including their means to secure daily meals, due to the recent fire outbreak,” the Thursday, March 27, 2025, statement by BTLA explained.

The association apologised to the minister “for this regrettable occurrence, believing strongly that this action was a result of misunderstanding and miscommunication among some members.

“In distressing times like these frustrations and emotions can run high, sometimes leading to unintended expressions of displeasure. However, such conduct does not represent the values or intentions of the Association as a whole.”

“We deeply appreciate Hon. Muntakar's empathy, compassion, and assurance to assist in reconstructing the devastated BlueLight trading area,” BTLA noted, adding, “We respectfully appeal for the return of the donated items to be properly distributed to our affected members.”

“We earnestly hope that Hon. Muntakar will graciously accept our apology and continue collaborating with us in the spirit of goodwill, unity, and mutual respect. Thank you for your understanding, patience, and continued support,” the statement concluded.

Aid from Mr Muntaka and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) included 1,500 bags of rice, and 800 boxes of soap and cooking oil, aimed at alleviating the suffering of victims of the recent Adum fire.

Some traders, affected by the tragedy, were disappointed over the donation, arguing it was not an appropriate response to their immediate and urgent needs.
