The Albert Kan-Dapaah-led Ministry of National Security has challenged a publication by the Herald Newspaper reporting officers of the ministry kidnapped Sylvia Baah, an executive of Emirates Airlines.

"The Ministry of National Security has noted with concern a publication by the Herald Newspaper alleging the abduction of one Sylvia Baah, manager of Emirates Airlines at the Kotoka International Airport, by officers of the Ministry of National Security and the National Intelligence Bureau," the Monday, November 25, 2024, statement opened.

"The Ministry wishes to categorically state that no officer from the Ministry or the National Intelligence Bureau was involved in the alleged abduction of Sylvia Baah."

The statement continued, "Meanwhile the Ministry has initiated investigations into the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction.

"The Ministry further wishes to assure the public that culprits of the alleged abduction will be made to face the full rigours of the law following the conclusion of the investigations.

"The public is, therefore, urged to treat the allegation by the Herald Newspaper with the contempt it deserves."

On November 22, the Ghana Police Service announced an investigation had been launched into the alleged kidnapping of Sylvia Baah, noting the day before, she had been allegedly carried away from the entrance of her residence in Accra.

According to the report by the Herald, "operatives of Ghana’s National Security specially from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) under the instruction of Nana Attobrah Quaicoe, were involved in last Thursday’s kidnapping of Sylvia Patience Baah, the Airport Services Manager for Emirates Airlines in Accra.

"The incident… reportedly stemmed from Sylvia’s refusal to allow two National Security officials [Kwabena Adu-Boahene, and Benjamin Ansah] and a lady [Rashida Saani Nasamu], travelling on an Emirates flight from Accra to Dubai onboard the aircraft, after their late arrival."
