GA/R: GNFS fights fire at Agbogbloshie market
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has reported a fire incident at the Agbogbloshie market in Accra.
According to ADO1 Alex King Nartey who managed the GNFS Facebook Live update, "a raging fire" was put under control by officers of the GNFS from Makola and Circle.
As he spoke, he showed footage of the remaining "pockets of flames," which was mainly "around the refuse dump" area of the market.
He also noted "it's a very congested area," adding, "accessibility is a problem" making it a "very big problem getting to the scene".
Disclosing the GNFS had "managed to contain [the fire] from further spread," he noted their supply was "difficult to replenish" seeing as "there's no functional hydrant here".
"Accessibility to go and replenish and come back is a problem [too], presenting a very big challenge to the officers here," he added.
Furthermore, he announced no casualty had yet been recorded, apart from "some damages" which could not be properly estimated until the fire had been totally subdued.
The fire was fought on Sunday evening, November 24, 2024. The GNFS went live on social media to report it around 11 PM.
Meanwhile, the cause is not immediately known.
