Charles Nii Armah Mensah, alias Shatta Wale, will get involved in the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) only after a meeting initiated by the organisers of the awards scheme regarded as the topmost in Ghana. 

He said this on Accra-based Hitz FM's U Say Wetin programme.

Calling the VGMAs “my ex-girlfriend,” Shatta noted that “anytime that they want to come back,” he is readily available; “I am here.”

He said he does not know why the organisers of the scheme “are behaving like the beef” they have cannot be squashed, adding that he deems it appropriate for the scheme to initiate a “nice approach to me.”

“Shatta, we want to sit down with you, and let you know we’re ready with our nominations and we have a team...,” is what he said he expects the VGMAs organisers to say to him.

He gave the impression that he is personally busy with “music and businesses and stuff that I am doing so at least they should also find somebody, you know, a person from their office” to come see him about nominations “and it’ll be beautiful.”

Signalling an interest in reconciliation and unity, the ‘On God’ hitmaker said: “We just need to understand that together we stand, divided we fall.” 

He stressed that he does not have an enemy at Charterhouse or VGMAs but “it’s just that things [scuffles] happen and we just move on.”

He cited how he and his host Prince Tsegah have fought several times in the past, however, Prince supports "everything" he does, "in terms of business [and] my career," in spite of it all.

He emphasised that he is not one to hold a grudge.

“I am the type of guy that when [I get upset and] I say I don’t like [something], we just trash it out, we just move on,” he said.

Perhaps to buttress, Prince Tsegah brought up an instance where the Reggae/Dancehall star said he would never grant an interview to him because of a misunderstanding.

In reaction, Shatta Wale joked that “Angel Gabriel came [to me] and said, ‘No, go to Prince Tsegah’.”

They both laughed.

On Saturday, March 18, 2023, the nomination list for the 24th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) was released.

The awards night is slated for Saturday, May 13, at the Grand Arena, Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

In 2019, during the 20th anniversary celebration of the VGMAs, Shatta Wale and his crew stormed the stage while then-rival Stonebwoy received what was to be his fifth Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year award. 

In the midst of the chaos, a gun was spotted on Stonebwoy. 

Due to the altercation, the VGMAs did not announce the winner of the ultimate trophy; Artiste of the Year – Stonebwoy and Wale were both in the category.

The two artistes were also indefinitely suspended from the scheme. 

In 2021, however, the ban was lifted. 

Stonebwoy made a return to the awards in 2022, nominated in two categories; Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year and Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year.
