Gov't launches GMX App to aid music makers, executives duly monetise their works
Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has led the launch of the Ghana Music Experience (GMX) App.
On Wednesday, October 30, 2024, the event brought industry executives and musicians, policy makers, and the media - traditional and new - together at De Icon, East Legon, Accra.
Dr Bawumia noted the GMX App was to promote Ghanaian music locally and internationally, and to ensure all players in the music value chain were duly compensated.
Frank 5, an executive at the Creative Arts Agency (CAA), pointed out a subscription on GMX App asked only GHS9.99. There is the option to use the App for free but with ad pop-ups, he noted.
He added, no bank card or external payment platform was necessary to use the GMX App, whether one was a creative or consumer. The App, he explained, was mobile money-compliant.
The GMX App, a private intiative with support from the government and 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bawumia campaign, would cover, not only the use of digital copies of music, but also live performances at religious and recreational events, among others.
