Black Stars return home after heroic World Cup qualification against Nigeria
The Black Stars have arrived in the country after securing qualification to the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar.
The players were met at the Kotoka International Airport with bottles of champagne to celebrate after securing the world cup spot ahead of bitter rivals Nigeria.
The team arrived at 2am on Wednesday morning.
The team drew 1-1 with the Super Eagles of Nigeria and qualified on the away goal rule after a 0-0 first leg encounter at the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi.
Despite arriving at the wee hours of the night, the team was met on arrival by Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif and officials of the sports ministry.
Meanwhile, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has congratulated the team on their qualification to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
In a Facebook post following the qualification of the Black Stars, President Akufo-Addo said: “Warm congratulations to the Senior National Football Team, the Black Stars, for their dogged display in Abuja, and qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.”
The President indicated: “I am very proud of the team’s exploits. They have made the entire nation proud”
