Black Queens await Rwanda or Egypt in 2026 WAFCON qualifiers
Ghana’s Black Queens are poised to face either Rwanda or Egypt in the second round of qualifiers for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Under the guidance of head coach Nora Hauptle, the Black Queens will be aiming to achieve consecutive WAFCON qualifications, having already secured their place in next year’s tournament.
The 2026 competition will see 38 African nations competing for 12 spots in the final phase, joining host nation Morocco, which will host Africa’s premier women’s football event for the third consecutive time.
Thanks to their strong FIFA rankings, Ghana is one of six top-ranked African teams—including South Africa, Zambia, Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria, and Cameroon—exempted from the first round of qualifiers. This gives the Black Queens a direct entry into the second round of the campaign.
Ghana’s opponent will be determined by the first-round fixture between Rwanda and Egypt, with the second round set to deliver intense home-and-away ties.
The first round of qualifiers is scheduled from 17 to 26 February 2025, with the second round slated for 20 to 28 October 2025.
With high expectations and a storied history in WAFCON, the Black Queens will aim to secure their place in the final phase and reaffirm their position among Africa’s elite women’s football teams.
