Napo calls for prayers from Christian and Islamic clergy ahead of elections
The Vice Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has appealed to Ghana’s Christian and Islamic clergy to fervently pray for peace as the nation approaches the December Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
During a meeting with Christian clergy in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Opoku Prempeh reaffirmed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's commitment to involving religious leaders as key stakeholders in governance.
This, he said, aligns with the NPP's principles of inclusivity and national cohesion.
“Ghana is a country chosen by God to shine to the world, and while that is a great blessing, we must recognize that without prayer, evil can befall the country,” Dr. Opoku Prempeh stated.
He expressed gratitude to the clergy for their unwavering intercessory prayers, which he believes have played a vital role in maintaining Ghana’s peace and stability.
The NPP running mate acknowledged the turbulent nature of election campaigns and potential risks of unrest, urging the clergy to pray for peace to prevail during the election season.
He also referenced prophecies surrounding the upcoming elections, asserting that the results would reveal the true prophets of God.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh extended a similar appeal during his engagement with the Islamic clergy in the Ashanti Region. He emphasized the importance of unity, reiterating the NPP’s foundation as a party that values diversity and competence above all else.
“The New Patriotic Party has always demonstrated its commitment to national unity through its diverse presidential ticket,” he said. “Ghana must never be divided along religious, ethnic, or other lines because true development transcends these divisions. We are one people bound by a common destiny.”
Dr. Opoku Prempeh pledged his unwavering loyalty to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s leadership and urged Ghanaians to vote for him, describing him as a unifying figure.
“A vote for Dr. Bawumia is a vote for national unity and transformation,” he concluded.
