NPP replaces unwell MP with David Asante
The national leadership of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), in consultation with the National Council, has decided to replace its sitting Member of Parliament for Nkwakaw in the Eastern Region, Joseph Frempong, ahead of the 2024 parliamentary elections.
The decision was made during an emergency meeting held in Accra on Tuesday, September 3, 2024.
According to party sources, the replacement is due to Joseph Frempong's current ill health, which would prevent him from engaging in the demanding campaign activities required for the upcoming elections.
Mr David Asante, the current Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Publishing Company Limited, has been named as the NPP’s new parliamentary candidate for the Nkwakaw Constituency.
Mr Asante, a native of Nkwakaw, previously contested in the party's parliamentary primaries in January 2024 but was defeated by the incumbent, Joseph Frempong.
With this new appointment, Mr Asante is expected to lead the NPP's efforts to retain the Nkwakaw seat in the 2024 general elections.
