Kasoa Magistrate Court remands two suspects in landguard attack case

The Kasoa Akweley Magistrate Court, presided over by Her Worship Annie Adobor, on Friday, April 11, 2025, remanded two individuals—Richard Kwavi, 34, and Samuel Okyere, 32—into police custody for allegedly using offensive weapons in an attack.
The incident occurred on March 25, 2025, when a land caretaker, Mr. Eliot Ntiamoah Ahenkrah, was reportedly assaulted by the suspects while returning from a site.
The police swiftly arrested Richard Kwavi on the same day, and he was arraigned before the court, which remanded him to reappear on April 11, 2025.
Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of a second suspect, Samuel Okyere.
During Friday’s court proceedings, the two were charged with a first-degree felony.
Prosecutor ASP Sylvester Agbuzudor informed the court that the Magistrate Court lacked jurisdiction to try such a serious offense and requested that the case be transferred to a higher court for further proceedings.
However, the defense counsel pleaded with the court to grant the accused persons bail, a request Her Worship Annie Adobor denied.
She ordered that both suspects be remanded in police custody for two more weeks.
The case has been adjourned to April 24, 2025.
Speaking to the media after the court session, the victim, Mr. Eliot Ntiamoah Ahenkrah, expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision. He called for stiffer punishment for the perpetrators to serve as a deterrent to others involved in similar criminal activities.
