Dr. Richard Amoako Baah, a prominent political scientist and former member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has officially announced the formation of a new political movement, the New Patriotic Front (NPF), citing deep disillusionment with the current leadership of the opposition party.

Addressing journalists at a press briefing in Accra on Monday, Dr. Amoako Baah described the NPP as a "broken and incompetent party" hijacked by arrogance and corruption under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

“The NPP that we once knew and believed in is no more.

It has been destroyed by arrogance, incompetence, and deeply rooted corruption,” he said.

“The current leadership has lost its moral compass and no longer serves the people of Ghana.”

Dr. Amoako Baah, who once served as a lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and held key roles within the NPP’s policy and communications circles, said the New Patriotic Front would provide a credible alternative to Ghanaians seeking honest, accountable leadership.

He accused the Akufo-Addo administration of betraying the ideals of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition, stating that governance had become centered around self-interest and sycophancy rather than service to the nation.

“What we are witnessing is not just poor leadership—it is a complete collapse of values.

The NPP has become a tool for personal enrichment,” he added.

The formation of the New Patriotic Front marks one of the most high-profile internal splits from the NPP in recent years and comes at a time when the party is working to consolidate support ahead of the December general elections.

Dr. Amoako Baah said the NPF would soon unveil its national leadership structure and policy priorities, and hinted at fielding parliamentary and possibly presidential candidates.
