NPP has paid the goodwill of Ghanaians with pain - Mahama
The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. John Dramani Mahama, has criticised the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what he describes as their failure to deliver on promises made to Ghanaians over the past eight years.
According to Mr Mahama, the only notable achievement of the NPP has been repaying the goodwill of the people with pain and suffering.
Speaking at the launch of the NDC’s 2024 manifesto at Winneba in the Central Region, Mr Mahama accused the Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia-led administration of prioritising the interests of their close associates while neglecting the broader population.
He argued that the NPP has only succeeded in collapsing businesses that do not align with their vision, while inflation has soared, making it difficult for many Ghanaians to afford even two meals a day.
The former president also highlighted the high levels of youth unemployment under the current administration, which has led many young Ghanaians to believe that the country is heading in the wrong direction.
Mr Mahama warned that a vote for the NPP, now led by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, would only prolong the impunity and hardship that Ghanaians have endured over the past eight years.
He likened Dr. Bawumia to a driver’s mate who learned from the driver that crashed the “Ghana vehicle,” implying that such leadership cannot be trusted to steer the country in the right direction.
During his address, Mr Mahama also unveiled plans for an initiative called "Operation Recover All The Loot Strategies" (ORALS), which would focus on recovering state assets and funds that have been misappropriated.
He further pledged to investigate the controversial Gold for Oil deal and promised to restore the licenses of financial institutions that were wrongfully collapsed under the current administration.
