The National Council (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will meet today, July 4, with the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to discuss his choice of running mate for the December 7 general elections.
Dr. Bawumia is said to have chosen Energy Minister Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh as his running mate.
In the meeting, he is expected to explain why Dr Prempeh is the best fit for the role.
On June 25, Dr. Bawumia held a critical meeting with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to discuss Dr. Prempeh's nomination.
Following this, he formally informed the NPP leadership and the Parliament’s Majority caucus of his decision.
The nomination of the Manhyia South MP has elicited mixed reactions within and outside the NPP, with some praising the choice and others expressing opposition.
