NDC emphasises respect for former president John Agyekum Kufour
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has responded to recent controversial comments made by a party member, Comrade Dela Edem, directed at former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
The National Communications Bureau described the comments as “unsavoury and distasteful,” and noted with approval that Edem has since retracted his statements and issued an unqualified apology to the former President.
In an official statement signed by National Communications Officer, Mr Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC expressed its own regret over the incident, affirming its deep respect for Ghana’s elder statesmen and senior citizens.
“The NDC as a party accords utmost respect to the elderly in our society and honour to our statesmen,” the statement read, emphasizing the party’s commitment to high standards of public discourse.
Additionally, the NDC urged its members and communicators to maintain focus on advocating for the party’s policies and the vision of former President John Dramani Mahama in the lead-up to the December 7, 2024, elections.
The NDC also issued a caution to the media and the general public to be vigilant against fake news, which it claims is increasingly being disseminated by certain operatives and supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The statement alleged that some NPP-affiliated communicators and Presidential Staffers are involved in circulating misinformation to mislead the public as the election season intensifies.
The NDC urged media houses to identify and hold such individuals accountable, ensuring that any culprits face legal consequences.
