The Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has announced a shake-up in the majority leadership in Parliament.
As part of this change, Obuasi West MP Kwaku Kwarteng has been removed as Chairman of the Finance Committee and will now serve as the Majority Spokesperson and Chairman of the Economy Committee.
The new standing orders have established an Economy Committee as a standalone entity separate from the Finance Committee, although it holds considerably less power.
The announcement was made unexpectedly on the floor of Parliament on Friday, June 28.
Explaining the reason for the shake-up, Mr. Afenyo-Markin stated that the Obuasi West lawmaker has the capability to effectively address the opposition's stance on economic matters. Interestingly, this was the only change announced by Afenyo-Markin.
