Mahama’s goodwill evident in retaining 'Jubilee House' name: Omane Boamah
The Defence Minister-designate, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has lauded President John Dramani Mahama for his exemplary goodwill in maintaining the name "Jubilee House" for Ghana's presidential palace.
According to him, this decision reflects the President’s commitment to fostering national unity and continuity in governance.
Speaking during his appearance before the Appointments Committee on Tuesday, 28 January, Dr Omane Boamah commended President Mahama for resisting the urge to revert the name to its former designation, "Flagstaff House."
He emphasised that such restraint demonstrates a focus on more pressing issues rather than engaging in symbolic controversies.
“It is by the good nature of President Mahama that he hasn’t changed the name from Jubilee House to Flagstaff House,” he remarked, highlighting the importance of prioritising inclusivity over potentially divisive debates. He noted that this gesture underlines the President’s respect for Ghana’s historical evolution while embracing its progress.
Dr Omane Boamah further underscored that decisions like these are significant in promoting harmony, especially in a diverse country like Ghana.
He praised the President for setting an example of how leadership can bridge differences by focusing on what unites the nation rather than what divides it.
The Defence Minister-designate concluded by expressing optimism that such thoughtful leadership will continue to guide the administration, ensuring that decisions made in governance reflect the collective interests of Ghanaians.
