The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly criticized the Special Prosecutor (OSP), Mr. Kissi Agyebeng, for declaring former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta a fugitive, describing the move as unconstitutional and politically motivated.

The party also condemned the government’s decision to revoke public service appointments made after December 7, 2024, elections, labelling it as illegal and detrimental to democratic governance.

At a press conference at the party's headquarters and addressed the National Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye, raised concerns over what they described as "unwarranted harassment" of Mr. Ofori-Atta by the OSP.

He argued that the former Finance Minister had communicated his medical leave to both the previous and current Chiefs of Staff and had remained available for any inquiries.

The party questioned why the OSP could not extend the same courtesy to Mr. Ofori-Atta as it did to other individuals under investigation, such as Samuel Mahama in the Airbus case.

"Ken Ofori-Atta has not evaded accountability.

He informed the relevant authorities about his medical leave and provided all necessary contact details.

The OSP’s actions are unjustifiable and set a dangerous precedent," the party stated.

The NPP also criticized what they termed the government’s "illegal directive" to annul all public service appointments made after December 7, 2024.

According to the party, these appointments followed due process, including financial and technical clearances, and should not be arbitrarily revoked.

"This decision is not only illegal but also a direct attack on hardworking Ghanaians who have secured their jobs lawfully.

It will destroy livelihoods, create unemployment, and undermine trust in our public institutions," the statement said.

The party cited similar post-election appointments made by former President John Mahama in 2016, such as those of Joseph Whittal to CHRAJ, Josephine Nkrumah to the National Commission for Civic Education, and Daniel Domelevo to the Auditor-General’s office, which were not overturned by the Akufo-Addo administration.

In addition, the NPP accused the Mahama-led government of selectively targeting political opponents through what they termed as "Operation Remove All Looters (ORAL)" while simultaneously clearing alleged corrupt NDC members under "Operation Clear All Looters (OCAL)."

The party pledged to support affected individuals in seeking legal redress and called on Ghanaians to resist what they described as an attempt by the Mahama government to erode democratic gains.

"The NPP will stand with every Ghanaian whose rights are being trampled upon. This government is failing the people barely a month into office, and we must hold them accountable," the party concluded.
