Free SHS: Mahama's gov't will feed students but not with expired food – Omane Boamah
The Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Edward Omane Boamah has criticized the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for allegedly feeding Free SHS students with expired rice, calling it "the highest level of wickedness" under the leadership of President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
He assured Ghanaians that a John Dramani Mahama-led government would never subject students to expired or substandard food.
Addressing concerns about the current state of the Free SHS programme, he outlined Mahama’s plans to enhance the initiative if elected.
Key proposals include abolishing the controversial double-track system, improving the quality of meals provided to students, and establishing a dedicated funding source to support the programme, Dr Boamah said in a post on Facebook over the weekend.
Additionally, Mahama intends to return procurement control to headmasters, bursars, and matrons, as was previously the case.
The NDC's Director of Elections argues this will allow schools to procure food more responsibly, avoiding issues such as alleged expired supplies.
The Director urged Ghanaians to support Mahama’s vision for education reform, alongside his plan to boost employment with a 24-hour economy initiative aimed at creating well-paying jobs.
