Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on the Electoral Commission to ensure that the upcoming general elections are conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.

Addressing concerns about the recent limited registration and voter transfer exercises, which were marred by incidents of violence, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasised the importance of implementing measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.

 "Ghana's democracy has over the years been the envy of many countries due to its nature of organising free and fair elections but the violence that characterised the country’s elections in recent times is worrying," she stated.

Her remarks came during a courtesy call on the Chief of Akyem Tafo, Osabarima Adusei Peasah IV, as part of her one-day tour of the Abuakwa North Constituency in the Eastern Region.

 Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also urged traditional leaders to take an active interest in the electoral process and to voice their concerns to ensure a peaceful election. 

She called on the Electoral Commission to act as an unbiased referee and to establish the appropriate procedures for a fair election.

Chief Osabarima Adusei Peasah IV for his part, echoed these sentiments, expressing hope for a historic moment should Ghana elect its first female Vice President. 

He highlighted Prof. Opoku-Agyemang's extensive academic background as a strong asset for her potential role as Vice President. 

The Chief also stressed the importance of fairness from the Electoral Commission in dealing with all political parties to guarantee free and fair elections.

Additionally, Chief Osabarima Adusei Peasah IV lamented the decline of the agricultural sector in the region, particularly the activities of the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG).

 He appealed to the NDC to revive this crucial industry if they win the December 7 general elections.
