Akufo-Addo celebrates 80% achievement of NPP manifesto promises
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has affirmed that his administration has successfully fulfilled 80% of the promises made in the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) manifesto.
Speaking during his tour of the Western North Region on Tuesday, 5 November 2024, the President highlighted key achievements of his government and reiterated his commitment to continuing the journey of development for the people of Ghana.
While acknowledging that not every promise has been realised, President Akufo-Addo emphasised that the majority of the objectives laid out in the NPP manifesto have been met, particularly in sectors such as education, health, road infrastructure, industrial transformation, agriculture, and cocoa.
"I wouldn’t stand before you and say I have delivered on all my promises. That will not be truthful but I can confidently say that 80% of our manifesto promises, I have achieved that," the President stated.
He continued to underscore the administration’s significant strides, particularly in education.
One of the flagship initiatives, the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, has been a cornerstone of President Akufo-Addo's government.
Since its implementation in 2017, more than 5.7 million students have benefited from the programme, providing access to secondary education for those previously unable to afford it.
Reflecting on the transformative impact of the Free SHS policy, President Akufo-Addo noted: “Before I became the president, every year, over 100,000 children who graduated from Junior High School were unable to continue to SHS because of financial challenges. Even when they passed, they couldn’t proceed. Over ten years, that meant more than 1,000,000 kids missed out on educational opportunities.”
He went on to praise the substantial changes the policy has brought to Ghana’s educational system, adding, “Today, thanks to Free SHS, the changes in our educational system have been dramatic."
Despite the hurdles, President Akufo-Addo assured the people of Western North that his administration is unwavering in its mission to advance the country's development, noting that while challenges remain, the government will continue to fulfill the remaining promises.
President Akufo-Addo also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the people of the Western North for their continued support, highlighting how crucial their backing has been to the successes his government has achieved.
