GA/R: Fire destroys homes and businesses in North Ofankor suburb
A devastating fire engulfed the Poultry Farm suburb near the North Ofankor barrier on Saturday, reducing over six wooden structures and seven rented apartments to ashes.
The blaze, which broke out around noon, destroyed homes, businesses, and goods, leaving affected residents and traders in despair.
Eyewitness Sister Abenaa, a yam seller, reported that the fire originated from a gas explosion, although the specific cause remains unclear.
She recounted seeing thick smoke billowing from a kiosk owned by a local couple.
“I saw heavy smoke coming from their kiosk. I rushed to call for help, but by then, the fire had already spiralled out of control,” she said.
The fire rapidly spread through the area, consuming nearby structures before emergency responders arrived.
Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the explosion and assess the extent of the damage.
In the meantime, affected families and businesses are appealing for support to rebuild their lives.
