W/R: Paramount Chief urges Regional Minister to ensure equal treatment

The Paramount Chief of Lower Dixcove Traditional Area, Nana Kwesi Agyeman IX, has called on Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson to avoid discrimination in his duties and ensure that all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District areas receive equal treatment.
The appeal was made during a courtesy call by the chief at the Western Regional Coordinating Council on Monday, February 24, 2025.
In his address, Chief Agyeman IX expressed his gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for appointing Minister Nelson—a move that has filled the Ahanta community with pride.
The chief, accompanied by his entourage, outlined several long-standing development challenges in the Ahanta area, including poor road networks, inadequate healthcare and educational facilities, and high unemployment among the youth.
He urged the minister to prioritize these issues for the benefit of the community.
The chief also cautioned Minister Nelson to maintain a high standard of conduct while in office, warning him against falling prey to temptations or plots that could tarnish his reputation, affect his family, or damage the image of Ahanta.
In response, Minister Nelson acknowledged the chief’s concerns and affirmed his commitment to the region.
“I am fully aware of the dynamics, challenges, and potential of our region,” he stated.
He highlighted critical health challenges in Ahanta West, particularly at the district hospital, and pledged to collaborate with appropriate institutions and stakeholders to address these issues.
Minister Nelson assured the chief and his elders that he is determined to work tirelessly to reposition the development trajectory of the Western Region and restore the image of Ahanta through concerted efforts and transparent governance.
