Post-election violence: Nine more arrested over arson attack on Ayensuano EC office; total arrests now 106

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of nine additional individuals in connection with the recent arson attack on the Electoral Commission (EC) office in Ayensuano, Eastern Region.

This brings the total number of suspects arrested for election-related disturbances to 106.

The suspects are currently in custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations into the violence and vandalism that followed the 2024 general elections.

The attack on the EC office is one of several incidents of unrest that occurred after the elections.

The Police have been working diligently to identify and apprehend those responsible for the disturbances, ensuring that they are held accountable for their actions.

In addition to the EC office attack, some individuals also targeted the offices of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and several terminals of the Metro Mass Transit.

The Police have stated that all those arrested are undergoing legal processes.

Authorities reassured the public of their commitment to restoring law and order and bringing those responsible for the violence to justice.

In a statement, the Ghana Police Service urged the public to remain patient as investigations continue and called for citizens to assist law enforcement by providing information to help apprehend those still at large.

The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and security across the country, ensuring the safety of communities, and upholding the rule of law.
