The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced for the information of the public that on Monday, February 17, 2025, it received into stores a total of 700,000 pieces of blank cards from its technical partners.

A statement from the NIA dated, Tuesday February 18, signed by its Corporate Affairs Directorate, explained this development followed “weeks of negotiations initiated by the Ag. Executive Secretary”.

“These blank cards will be used to print the backlog of records (First Issuance, Card Replacement and Update of Personal Information) which have been pending since 2023,” it added.

The NIA said, “In line with government's objective of ensuring that Ghanaians aged 15 and above have the Ghana Cards for the purposes of identification and verification, the Ag. Executive Secretary has constituted a technical team to expedite the printing of the backlogs and to oversee its distribution to the various district offices for on-ward issuance.”

“The public will be informed in due course when the card issuance will commence in the district offices across the country,” the authority assured.

“The public is once again reminded of more than 600,000 Ghana cards that have been printed but remain uncollected at the various regional and district offices since 2018. A team is developing an efficient system to help distribute these cards for their intended use,” the NIA noted.

The NIA, in conclusion, assured the public it remained committed to “conducting its operations efficiently and in the best interest of the nation”.
