Bawumia not capable of fixing sunk economy- Amoako Baah
A retired political science lecturer from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Richard Amoako Baah, has voiced skepticism about Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s capacity to revive Ghana’s economy if he is elected President in December 7 general elections.
Dr. Amoako Baah argued that Dr. Bawumia lacks the “magic wand” to resolve the country’s economic challenges, highlighting that the government was a collective effort, not individual action.
Dr. Amoako Baah pointed out that Dr. Bawumia was part of the current administration, which he holds responsible for the economic struggles facing Ghana today.
Commenting on former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s recent endorsement of Dr. Bawumia as the most capable candidate to restore the economy, Dr. Amoako Baah expressed disapproval, questioning the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) decision to promote Dr. Bawumia as the solution to economic issues he helped create.
Speaking on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ghana Yensom Morning Show, co-hosted by Kaayire Kwesi Appea-Apraku and Odehyeeba Kofi Essuman on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, Dr. Amoako Baah also criticized the NPP leadership for what he described as a lack of accountability in backing Dr. Bawumia.
He contended that it was “shameless” on the part of the NPP leadership to promote Dr. Bawumia as the economic saviour, given his role in the current administration.
Dr. Amoako Baah further questioned former President Kufuor’s record on economic management, recalling Ghana’s designation as a Heavily Indebted Poor Country (HIPC) during his tenure.
While acknowledging his respect for Kufuor, he argued that Kufuor’s performance in managing the economy was also lacking.
Dr. Amoako Baah speculated that Kufuor’s endorsement of Dr. Bawumia may have been influenced by external motivations, suggesting that it might be a “paid-for endorsement.”
