Over 4,000 students gain admission to pursue different programmes in HTU at 32nd matriculation ceremony

More than 4,000 students have gained admission to pursue different programmes of their choice at the Ho Technical University (HTU), Ho, Volta Region.
The number is a record, according to Vice Chancellor Prof Ben Honyenuga who said it was the highest since the establishment of the institution.
The university received 5,327 applications for processing. Out of this, 4,120 were males and 1,650 were females.
Prof Ben Honyenuga revealed this during the 32nd matriculation ceremony of the Ho Technical University (HTU) last Friday, February 28, 2025.
The ceremony enabled the management of the institution to induction of 2,304 males and 1,816 females, bringing the total student population of the university to almost 10,000.
Prof Ben Honyenuga, during his address, assured the new students HTU remained committed to providing a conducive atmosphere for their academic prospects, urging them, also, to be committed to learning and good behavior.
He encouraged them to take advantage of the opportunities available at the university and pursue their personal development goals with verve.
Prof Ben Honyenuga underlined the need to be self-disciplined to enable students achieve their purpose for coming to the university.
“My dear freshmen and women, as the ‘Gen Z’ generation, you must never lose sight of the fact being a university student does not shield you from legal consequences for crimes such as sexual harassment, rape, examination malpractice, occult practices, theft, and the use of illegal drugs,” he said.
“There is also evidence of information overload on social media. As university students, it is your responsibility to filter and reject all forms of misinformation, especially those aimed at character assassinations of innocent individuals. Additionally, there is a significant amount of violence depicted on social media. Many of these scenes should not be replicated in real life, as doing so.
“The internet has a long memory. Given this, it is important to be cautious about what you post and share on social media platforms as the inappropriate posts may come back to haunt you in in the future. Additionally, keep in mind that the laws of Ghana are applicable to everyone, which means that could have serious consequences in the future.”
He encouraged students to visit the Counseling Office at the Directorate of Career Placement and Counseling for support whenever necessary.
The Vice Chancellor urged the freshmen to pursue academic excellence and make use of the opportunities available to enhance their future.
He noted the university had multiple awards, locally and internationally. He cited the 5th Best University in Ghana by the 2024 Times Higher Education (THE) Sub-Sahara Africa University Rankings. He mentioned the university’s victory for the grand finale of the Big Chef Tertiary Season 2, a reality cooking TV show hosted by JoyPrime TV. He highlighted these had placed the university in a competitive position.
“Finally, as you may be aware, the University Clinic is open 24/7 to attend to your needs. Medical Director and his staff are available and ready to provide the needed medical care for your good health on campus. Ensure you visit the facility with your NHIS cards for treatment,” he noted.
“The university offers a wonderful opportunity to build a network and form lasting friendships. Campus life is full of possibilities, but it’s also essential to choose your friends wisely. Ensure you navigate any academic or social challenges you might encounter during your time here.
“The university is not only an institution for academic pursuits but also a foundation for personal growth and development to prepare you for the job market.”
Meanwhile, the university has introduced BA Communication and Applied Media Technology, giving an opportunity to students who want to pursue communication programmes.
On his parts, Dr Christopher Amehoe, the Registrar, urged the newly admitted students to pay their school fees without fail and ensure they compled with the rules and regulations of the university.
