Residents of Adom, a suburb of Nungua Adogon in the Greater Accra Region, are living in constant fear as a surge in criminal activity continues to disrupt the peace of the once-calm neighborhood.

The area has become notorious for robberies, assaults, and other violent crimes, especially during the evening hours.

Eyewitnesses who spoke to journalist Sir Samuel Thompson of Accra 100.5 FM revealed that criminal activity in the area begins as early as 6:30 PM, with criminals patrolling the streets and attacking unsuspecting residents.

The Adom Route, in particular, has gained notoriety as a crime hotspot, with regular reports of phone snatching, muggings, and physical assaults.

One resident, who chose to remain anonymous, shared a recent frightening incident.

“My girlfriend was walking along the Adogon-Adom route when two men stopped her, snatched her phone, and ran off.

She had to flee and call for help.

By the time the police arrived, the thieves had already escaped.”

This incident is just one of many that have left residents feeling abandoned by authorities.

"We're living in fear every day," another resident lamented. "We can't keep going like this.

We need the police to do more to protect us."

The lack of a police post in the area has been identified as a key factor fueling the rising crime wave. Residents are calling on the government, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), and local authorities to take urgent steps to ensure their safety.

“We are pleading with the authorities to establish a police post here, increase night patrols, and collaborate with the community to identify and arrest the criminals,” said a concerned resident.

“Everyone deserves to feel safe in their home.”

Calls have also been directed at the Member of Parliament for the area, Agness Naa Momo Lartey, the Assemblyman, and other local leaders to intervene and work closely with law enforcement agencies to address the worsening situation.

As the community waits for action, residents remain hopeful that their concerns will be heard and swift steps taken to restore peace and security in Adom.
