On Monday, 22 August, 2022, Ghanaian music performer Worlasi spent time with students at the University of Ghana, Legon campus in Accra.

As guest speaker at the university’s department of English, he addressed more than 40 students in the afternoon during the English class named 'ENGL 314: Introduction to African Literature’.

Hosting him was the University of Ghana’s lecturer in English Dr. Kwabena Opoku-Agyemang who had announced the singer’s visit on Twitter.

The sole purpose according to the tweet was for the artiste to discuss “his craft, inspiration, etc with students who are eager to learn about his work.”

For two hours, Worlasi, affectionately called ‘Waaska’, engaged the eager students on just that.

During his time with the English class, he learned some of the students’ favourites out of his repertoire are 2016’s ‘100 Percent’ with M.anifest, 2017’s ‘Mawena’ ft Alee and ‘Booze High’ with Juls from his Outerlane EP, 2019’s ‘We All Go Die’ with Senku Band from his ‘Worla (The Man & the God)’ album, and the solo effort ‘Comot’ from 2020.

Ahead of his engagement with students of Ghana’s premier university, the music producer expressed his excitement on Instagram informing fans about the experience ahead, “Sharing my process and style to budding talents gives me so much joy, charley!!!”

It was under this very post that a student using the handle @ayilba who had been in the audience that afternoon left the feedback: “We enjoyed today’s lecture” with fire and heart emojis.

For Worlasi, the experience was, “one of the best days in my life this year. Europe was also awesome but this felt different because I felt like I was giving back [to the community].”

“I think it made me understand who I was even more because I could see, and they reminded me of some of the things I’ve even forgotten about myself basically,” he added.

Worlasi Langani’s language of choice is Ewe but he also expresses his sonic and lyrical genius through other languages including English, Akan, Ga and Pidgin.

The singer and rapper is gearing up for the release of a new album after 2019’s ‘Worla: the Man and the God’.
